Aftershocks Expected to Continue for Days

A powerful earthquake has struck Japan, causing widespread damage and loss of life. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned that powerful aftershocks could continue over the next three days, and has urged people to remain vigilant.

Major Buildings Collapse, Fires Reported

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.6, struck on Monday afternoon near the Noto peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture. The quake caused numerous buildings to collapse, and fires have broken out in several areas.

Tsunami Warning Lowered

The JMA initially issued a tsunami warning for the coastal areas of Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, but the warning was later lowered. However, the agency has warned that there may still be some changes to the sea level, and has advised people to stay away from the coast.

Casualties and Damage

The number of people killed in the earthquake is still unknown, but is expected to be high. The quake has also caused significant damage to infrastructure and property, and thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes.
